Semifreddo

It may seem peculiar to be making a frozen, ice cream dish in winter. Except that, for half the world, its currently summer and ice cream is totally apt. You people – I envy you. From September to December I love winter. I’m not much of a Halloween person so for pretty much this whole period I’m excited for Christmas: loving cosy nights in, Sunday night television and fires, hot water bottles and hot chocolate with far too many marshmallows. Then January hits. I’m not a January person. Not particularly a February one either. It’s back to school. Christmas is gone for another whole 12 months. It rains. The morning bus seems to take forever to arrive. I long for summer.
DSCF6066 I long for May, June, July and August. My birthday! Picnics on the green, trips to the park after school on a Friday. That after-summer-exam feeling of pure relaxing. Exciting opportunities, the end of the school year. Six long weeks of summer holiday stretching ahead of me waiting to be filled in, booked up, travelled through. Ice cream. So, here’s to summer hurrying itself up and arriving soon. Please?

When my sister saw this, she said it looked like a giant fluffy pillow. And that’s just what it taste like – a soft spoonful of vanilla creaminess. What exactly is not to like? The vanilla creaminess is layered with crunchy hits of chocolate, all softened by a decadent chocolate sauce. Mmm. Once again the recipe comes from the classic Rachel Allen – although you could mix it up a bit by flavouring the vanilla more, I was thinking with amaretto, ginger, or citrus….

That looks amazing and no need for an ice cream maker (although I do have one!). I empathise with hating January and February - my birthday is April so I'll be happy when it gets that far!

Doesn't seem odd to me, but then here in Boston we eat ice cream year round. :D

It looks wicked good!

Lucy, you are right that in other part of the world is probably hot right now. This is perfect post for them, and for me too because I don't really mind to eat it in the middle of winter.
Now, let me go and check the recipe link.
Cheers,
elra

And here I am longing for Winter, although I think our Summers are rather unbearably hot compared to yours! What I wouldn't give for you to show up at my doorstep right now with this yummy dessert all made for me...yes please!

I had some icecream yesterday and we just had a big snow fall! haha
I actually was just looking at a bunch of recipes for semifreddo and I totally wanted to make a batch.

I do long for summer though! Here's to waiting for the warmth!!!

I agree.. winter should be done after Christmas! Everywhere I have lived there is usually no snow at Christmas and then it all comes pouring down as soon as it's over. Maybe we should consider moving Christmas? I wouldn't mind that.. then we could have a couple of winter months to get hyped about it. :) Your Semifreddo look wonderfully frosty and scrumptious!

I totally agree with you! I LOVE the few months leading up to Christmas and then I'm totally depressed when it's January again. I start looking forward to spring and summer, when the rain stops and I no longer have to hide under a big coat! Your cake looks SO good and I'm sure you can enjoy it any time of the year!
